Kehillat Beijing

Founded in 1979, the Kehillat Beijing Foundation supports Jewish life in Beijing, around China, and across the world. We host Shabbat services and dinner each and every Friday night beginning at 7:00pm, in addition to a range of holiday celebrations, educational opportunities, and community retreats and excursions into one of the world's greatest cities.

Ted Plafker's Bar-Mitzvah - 2017

On October 21, 2017, the Kehillat community joined the Lipson-Plafker family in celebrating Ted’s bar mitzvah at the Brickyard Great Wall Retreat. After a beautiful ceremony officiated by Rabbi Shimon Freundlich, with torah reading and words from Ted, friends new and old came together to celebrate with dining and drinking, music and dancing, and much, much merry-making.

High Holidays + Community Retreat - 2017

Kehillat ushered in 5778 with warmth and simchah as we gathered together for high holidays services led by Rabbi Jack and an exciting community retreat hosted by Roberta and Ted in Beigoucun. The weekend was filled with singing, dancing, as Ben and Ted played guitar, a hike to the Great Wall, cooking, delicious meals, community discussion led by Sam and Daniel, and a clear night sky full of beautiful stars. Rabbi Jack also led us in thoughtful Shabbat morning tefillah and a workshop to help people become more familiarized with Shabbat services. We had an excellent time together, and look forward to the next high holidays retreat in 5779!

Kehillat Shabbat Dinners Depend on You!

A generous group of donors spearheaded by Stacy Palestrant has offered to match dollar for dollar every donation made by the end of June up to a cap of $3,500. The best news? If we unlock the full match, we will have raised enough to cover 100% of  Kehillat's projected 2014 expenses for Shabbat meal subsidies. No gift is too small!
