Limmud / Kehillat 2014 - Jews in Asia
This past May, nearly 200 Jews from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Australia, the US, the UK, and other places across the world converged for a long weekend in the shadow of the Great Wall of China. Organized jointly by the JDC and the Kehillat Beijing Foundation, the Limmud / Kehillat Beijing Retreat and Shabbaton was an opportunity to learn about and discuss a range of topics, all brought together by our wonderful participants. Discussion sessions ranged from learning about Indian Judaism to the role that Chinese tea played in world history. Leaders from all of Asia's major Jewish communities gathered for a panel discussion on the unique challenges and benefits of promoting Jewish life in Asia, and there was plenty of time for schmoozing, music, and great food.
This Limmud was truly a microcosm of Jewish life in Asia. We cannot wait to see how the energy and excitement of this year's Limmud transfers to all our communities. Special thanks go out to everyone who spent days and weeks planning all of the details necessary to put together such a great event.
